Las Vegas - The City Begins!

Ah Vegas, the City of Sin.... what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. What is my fascination with Las Vegas? I think it comes down to the energy of the city. There is a certain energy in the air. The city that never sleeps. There is something for everyone in Vegas and not just gambling, showgirls, or the lights.

Way back when, someone had this idea to build a city in the middle of the desert. Was it as easy as that? Actually pretty much yes. In the late 1800's the State Land Act offered sections of land for $1.25 per acre. Are you kidding me? $1.25 an acre, it's no wonder that farmers came from all over to set up shop. In May of 1905, Las Vegas was founded as a city.

The population boom started in 1931 with the construction of the Hoover Dam. In 1959 the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign was created. In 1960, the population of Las Vegas rises to about 65, 000. In 1969 Elvis Presley opened up what is now the Las Vegas Hilton. Within twenty years the population of Las Vegas increases by 100,000.

In the past few years, Las Vegas has become the largest metropolitan city in the US that was founded in the 20th Century. That in itself is pretty cool. Over 5,000 people move into the Las Vegas valley each month.
