Van Halen To Tour 2007 with David Lee Roth
Interesting news to the worst kept secret in all of rock and roll.... Van Halen will tour in 2007 with original singer David Lee Roth. Playing bass will be Wolfgang Van Halen replacing original bassist Michael Anthony. (Wolfgang is the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen) What was once the greatest hard rock band in the world, Van Halen has been fairly quiet over the past ten years with the exception of a 2004 tour that included vocalist Sammy Hagar.
There has been some controversy with the band as of late mainly due to the ego of Eddie. During the 2004 tour it was not uncommon for Ed to be at odds with the other members of the band including brother Alex. Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar remain close as Anthony has pretty much joined Hagar's side jamming classic Van Halen tunes as well as some of Sammy's solo stuff.
It will be intersting to see how the tour plays out with two of the largest egos in all of rock and roll in Roth and Eddie Van Halen. Personally I'd like to see Hagar and Anthony in the band, but we'll see how David Lee Roth handles the gig. An intersting side not is that the band is slated to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this spring with all former members attendning (save third vocalist Gary Cherone.) Whew sparks will fly!
