Oilers Trade Heart and Soul - Ryan Smyth to the Islanders

Wow, the Edmonton Oilers made a move reminiscent of the mid 90's when year in and year out they traded their best talent away. The latest is Ryan Smyth.... I like most Oilers fans am truly shocked by this move... unless that is the Oilers will be trying to get Ryan back after July 1 when he becomes a UFA.

Unable to reach a long-term deal with their heart-and-soul player, the Edmonton Oilers instead traded Ryan Smyth to the New York Islanders for prospects Ryan O'Marra and Robert Nilsson and the Islanders' first-round pick in 2007.

Oilers President and CEO, Patrick LaForge asked that fans remain objective when considering the deal, "This was about the Oilers staying true to a plan. I know our hockey strategy is sound," said LaForge.

The move came as a surprise to many of Smyth's long-time teammates.

"It's shocking," said Oilers captain Jason Smith. "Being a teammate of Ryan's for numerous years and knowing what a great competitor he is, obviously that is someone you don't want to see leave your team."

A very disappointing day for Edmonton Oilers fans. Good luck Ryan. See you in the summer.

Tom Abramowski's Wandering Monk - Same Old B.S.

In the mood for a little B.S.? Have I found the perfect blog for you. Tom Abramowski's Wandering Monk blog. From his "so-called dates" to his struggle as a stage actor you will find his experiences unlike no other. Some of you may find his rants and raves pathetic and lame while others may find it amusing. I happen to find it a little of both. You wonder why the guy is still single. The guy likes to talk bull and frankly he is full of it, but one thing is for sure and that is he always has something to say.

The guy is comical and if you know him in real life as I do, you will know that he can be extremely obnoxious. I think that he means well though. While you may laugh with him, it seems to be more fun to laugh at him.

Welcome to the blogosphere Tommy Boy.

Edmonton Oilers Can't Catch a Break

So I'm watching the Oilers/Canucks game yesterday in what was probably the biggest game this season for the Oilers. The Vancouver Canucks frustrate me.... you see they're not really that good and the reason they have jumped up in the standings is mainly due to the excellent goaltending of Roberto Luongo. During the telecast yesterday the announcers (who are obvious "homers" for the Canucks) could not stop talking about the Sedin sisters... yawn boring. Sure they ended up with nine points between them but I mean c'mon there were 40 players in that game.... who cares about the alien-looking Sedin twins.

The game was fine until the officials call not one, but two five on three penalties in favor of the Canucks. Both of these 2-man advantages were for the full two minutes, that is until the Canucks scored powerplay goals... I don't know if I have ever seen that before... at least not in that short of span. Two full 2 minute five on three advantages. You could tell the calls took the life out of the Oilers.... too bad the first period had great intensity. So the final score was 5-2 for the Canucks... not really a true indicator of the game as the Canuck had an empty netter and a number of powerplays. The Canucks are pathetic.... a number of the players should give a portion of their salaries to Roberto Luongo as he should win the Hart trophy for league MVP. He and he alone is the reason that they are winning and all of your Canuckleheads know it.
